Norman Connections
Normannische Verflechtungen zwischen Skandinavien und dem Mittelmeer
15 October 2020 – 17 October 2020
Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen Mannheim
The dynamics of medieval interconnectedness can be observed particularly well by studying the Normans, who were characterised by high mobility and adaptability. The historical and cultural diversity of Norman history, which relates to questions of identity and belonging and was subject to constant change, make the Normans a topic of particular relevance. The congress not only represented an important contribution to European research on the Normans, the results of which will be published at the end of the year 2021, but it is also connected to the preparations of a major special exhibition prepared by the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen Mannheim, into which the research results will be incorporated. The exhibition The Normans will be presented at the Museum Zeughaus from 18.09.2022 – 26.02.2023 and will have a second venue in Normandy, in Rouen and Caen, in the summer of 2023.
