About ZEPHYR

ZEPHYR is supported by the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen, the City of Mannheim’s Cultural Agency and the Bassermann-Kulturstiftung Mannheim. This enables it to organize a program that is not only driven by art market mercantilism but also highlights neglected and exciting trends in the medium of photography. ZEPHYR has been implementing its varied program of international contemporary art in numerous individual, group and comprehensive thematic shows since 2005.

ZEPHYR opened in the spring of 2005 with a show entitled “Erzähl mir vom Krieg” (Tell Me about the War) by two young British photographers. Ever since, the exhibition gallery has been offering an ambitious program of contemporary photography and related media in countless changing shows. ZEPHYR presented the project “my vision – Ideen für die Welt von Morgen” (my vision: Ideas for the World of Tomorrow) in 2007 on the occasion of the city of Mannheim’s quadricentennial. Important architecture photographer Julius Shulmann’s largest European show “Cool and Hot” was on display at ZEPHYR in 2010. These are but two examples from ZEPHYR’s sophisticated program, which is typified by highly topical themes but never loses sight of other photographic roles from the realms of pop, fashion or snapshots of everyday life, though. Participation in the Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie (formerly the „Fotofestival Mannhheim-Ludwigshafen-Heidelberg“) is an integral part of the exhibition program.
