About the exhibition
The exhibition invites you on a fascinating journey into the origins and transformations of shamanic practices. Experience Siberian shamanism through the unique Siberia collection of the Reiss Engelhorn Museums (rem) as well as other outstanding artifacts, interactive stations, and illustrations. Shamans served as mediators between humans, nature, and the spirit world. Their knowledge, their rituals, and their service to the community still resonate to this day. Highlights among the approximately 200 objects include a shaman’s outfit with an extraordinary antler cap, as well as impressive ritual figures, amulets, and instruments.
Everyday objects and weapons illustrate how closely the spiritual work of shamans was connected to life in their environment. We invite you to learn about the wide range of shamanic beliefs and roles, a critical approach to common clichés, and modern developments in the exhibition. Discover the change, diversity, and enduring fascination of a widespread spiritual practice.
