Highlights of the Art and Cultural History Collections

About the exhibition

The “Belle Époque” eclectically presents a cultural kaleidoscope of the period around 1900 with a focus on Mannheim: Paintings, applied art, textiles and more portray events in the emerging industrial city in different narratives.

“Glaubensschätze” (Religious Treasures) unite finest sacral art from roughly 1000 years. The collection provides insight into different stylistic forms of Christian art from the Gothic to the Baroque. The centerpiece is the Roth Altarpiece of 1513. It was carved in the workshop of Niklaus Weckmann and is an outstanding example of Gothic carving and altarpieces.
